Why did the U.S. raise tariffs and why was it

a poor decision during this time?
A. To punish Great Britain, France, and Germany for
not paying back the money they owed to U.S.
banks. It was a poor decision to raise tariffs
because it brought in more trade.
B. To try and bring in more money to the American
economy. It was a poor decision to raise tariffs
because other countries didn't want to or could
not afford to pay the tariffs.

Answer:

B the Hawley-Smoot tariff was purposed by Hoover to raise the start of the 1929 stock market crash and led to isolationism and made other countries put tarriffs on the U.S, which eliminated markets and made farmers overproduce and thus turn into debt.
