Answer:

There were 80 adult tickets sold and 29 children tickets sold.

c + 51 = a

51 = a - c

c = a - 51

a*1.25 + c*0.75 = 129.75

a = 100 c = 49 a + c = 161.75

a = 80 c = 29 a + c = 121.75

Answer:

84 adult tickets and 33 child tickets were sold.

Explanation:

Given that a school sold 51 less children's tickets than adult tickets for the school play, and adult tickets cost $ 1.25 and children's tickets cost $ 0.75, and a total of $ 129.75 was taken in, to determine how many of each kind were sold the following calculations must be done:

61 x 1.25 + 10 x 0.75 = 83.75

81 x 1.25 + 30 x 0.75 = 123.75

82 x 1.25 + 31 x 0.75 = 125.75

83 x 1.25 + 32 x 0.75 = 127.75

84 x 1.25 + 33 x 0.75 = 129.75

Thus, 84 adult tickets and 33 child tickets were sold.
