Find the equation of a line that is perpendicular to the line x=11 and contains the point (1,8)

Answer:

y = 8

Explanation:

x = 11 is a vertical line (straight up and down). All equations of the form

x = anumber

are vertical lines.

Perpendicular lines make right angles, "square corners", 90° like a wall and the floor!

So the line perpendicular to a vertical line is a horizontal line(like the horizon, a left and right, completely flat line)

A horizontal line has the form

y = anumber

in this case you have a point (x, y), that is given (1, 8) so what does y equal?

y = 8
