A drug that I found interesting is levodopa. Levodopa is commonly prescribed to people with Parkinson disease, which is caused by deficient dopamine activity. Levodopa helps patients increase dopamine in the body. This drug is also used to treat muscular conditions like perphenazine and fluphenazine. Patients are told to take each dose of levodopa with a full glass of water, and to take the pills several times a day.

As with all psychoactive drugs, levodopa has possible side effects. The side effects include hallucinations, muscle twitching, confusion, seizures, depression, and unusual changes in mood or behavior. In addition, levodopa may interfere with diabetic urine tests for sugar, vitamins, or other minerals if taken around the time of the test.
