A sailboat and catamaran are in a race to see who can sail across the Atlantic ocean the fastest..

.The sailboat covers a distance of 3240 miles in 8 days
.The catamaran covered a distance of 4020 miles in 10 days
If the sailboat is able to maintain a constant rate for 10 days, how many more miles would they have traveled than the catamaran?

Answer:

The sailboat would cover 30 more miles than the catamaran.

Explanation:

To find how many miles the sailboat goes in 1 day (unit rate) you divide 3240/8 that gives you 405 miles in one day. Multiply that by 2 to get 810 miles in two days. Add 810+3240=4050. That shows that in 10 days the sailboat would travel 4,050 miles which is 30 miles more than the catamaran.
