13. A right triangle has sides 8 and 12.

a. Find the missing side if 8 and

12 are legs.


b. Find the missing side if 8 and

12 are a leg and hypotenuse.

So the pythagorean theorem is a^2 + b^2 = c^2. in this case it would be 12^2 + 8^2 = c^ 2

Explanation:
12^2 = 144
8^2= 64
64 + 144 = c^2
208 = c^2
in order to find c we need to square root both sides of the equation, you can plug that into the calculator.
c = about 14.4

A if 8 and 12 are legs the missing side would be 14.42
B if 8 is a leg and 12 is hypotenuse then the other leg would be 8.94
