The length of the bottom of the triangle is x. Another side is 10 more than three times the length of the bottom of the triangle. We can only find the range of the values of x by using triangle inequality,


x + 1 + x > 3x + 10 \\ \\ 1 - 10 > 3x - 2x \\ \\ - 9 > x

Multiply through both sides by -1, we get,


x < - 9

This means x = -10, -11, ... (which is not realistic because a side of a triangle cannot be a negative number)
