Explanation:

1) if they want an equation where y depends on x, then you need to write the equation in slope-intercept form. Or... y=mx+b where m is the slope and b in the y-intercept.

2) looking at the line, it intercepts y at 4, so that is your intercepts or "b"

3) the slope is the change in the y values over the change in the x values for any two points. Notice if you choose the point (0,4) and (2,0) the change in the y values is -4 and the change in the x values is 2. Therefore, the slope is -4/2 or -2. -2 is your m.

4) once you plug those values in to y=mx+b, you have y= -2x+4
