Explanation:

first we will distribute out everything

-2x +5 +4x+ 9 = 3(6 +4x)- 12x

(multiply 3 to both 6 and 4x)

-2x +5 +4x+ 9= 18 +12x -12x

then combine like variables on both sides

(add -2x and 4x and add 5 and 9, for the other side add 12x and -12x)

2x+14= 18

then isolate x

2x=4

x=2

and substitute x for 2 to double check

-2(2)+5+4(2)+9=3(6+4(2))-12(2)

18=18

therefore 2 is correct
