We need 2 people out of a group of 4

Let's take a random person, and another to group with the random person we picked. We can group them with 3 different people ( 3 ways )

Now, repeat again, and pick a person to group with the person who is grouped with the first person (except the first person themself) (2 ways)

And repeat again, you will group them with the last person.

So in total, you have 3 + 2 + 1 = 6 ways to pick 2 people from a group of 4.
