Explanation:

So we can split the figure to two rectangles and a square

The first and last rectangle have the same area,

The area of the first rectangle = 9 * 3

= 27 cm^2

The area of the square = 6 * 6

= 36 cm^2

So the total area of the figure is,

(27+27) + 36 = 54 + 36 = 90cm^2

cut the figure into 3 parts
area of rectangle is length x width
3x2=6
12x7=84
add them together
6+6+84=96
