The ratio of boys to girls in a class is 5:7. There are 36 students in the

class. How many more girls than boys are there?

Answer:

add the ratios together. this gives 5+7 which is 12. divide 36 by 12, this gives 3. this tells us it's three students for every value of the ratio, so the ratio is 5(3):7(3). it becomes 15 boys to 21 girls. to find out how many more girls, we subtract 15 from 21. our answer is 6.

Answer: number of girls = 21 & number of boys = 15
