Why did it take Italy longer to unify than other European nations such as Great Britain and France?

Because france did no want Prussia to unite the Germans and, as a result, there was The Franco Prussian War and France was defeated. As a result of this war, the German Empire was proclaimed. This had nothing to do with a German inferiority complex and yes, it did take much longer than the UK, France and Spain.
