5x - 2 = 7x - 9 subtract 5x from both sides then add 9 to both sides

5x - 5x - 2 + 9 = 7x - 5x - 9 + 9

-2 + 9 = 7x - 5x

7 = 2x

3.5 = x

5x - 2 = 7x - 9

3 ≠ -2 when x = 1

8 ≠ 5 when x = 2

13 ≠ 12 when x = 3

15.5 = 15.5 when x = 3.5

18 ≠ 19 when x = 4
