Explanation:

-4x - 5 + 2x = -11

step 1 (group like terms)

-4x + 2x = -11 + 5

step 2 (evaluate)

(left hand side (L.H.S) of the '=' sign)

-4x + 2x = -2x

(right hand side (R.H.S) of the '=' sign)

-11 + 5 = -6

step 3(Equate L. H. S to R. H. S) and evaluate

-2x = -6

Divide both sides by the coefficient of 'x' ie.(-2)

-2x/-2 = -6/-2

x =3

Note: when a negative number divides a negative number the result is positive.
