Answer and Step-by-step explanation:

For this shape, we have to draw a line that goes through the point that is inside of the shape from top to bottom.

This creates a square and two triangles.

The area formula for a triangle is A =
(bh)/(2)

The area of a square is A = b*b

Half of 3 is 1.5.

Triangles (Area combined):

Since there are two triangles that are the same, we only need to find the area of of 1 triangle, and not divide by 2.

A = 3 × 1.5 = 4.5

Square:

A = 3 × 3 = 9

Now, we add them together to get the total area of the figure.

9 + 4.5 = 13.5

The area of the figure is 13.5
in^(2).

We can’t find the area of the shape just like that. So we have to draw a line and cut the shape, which makes it 1 square and 2 of the same triangles.
Let’s solve for the square first.
Area=Length x Width
A=3 x 6
A=18in
Now the 2 triangles
Area=Base x Height/2
Area=1.5 x 3/2
Area=2.25in
Now add all of them together:
18+2.25+2.25=22.5in
