Where,

f(a) = f(4) = (4)² + 3(4) = 16 + 12 = 28

b = 7,

f(b) = f(7) = (7)² + 3(7) = 49 + 21 = 70

Plug in the values into the formula

Average rate of change =
(70 - 28)/(7 - 4)


= (42)/(3) = 14
