A quadratic function with two x-intercepts could replace two of the linear functions, or a cubic with 3 x-intercepts could replace 3 of the linear functions.

b) Again, the total degree must be 3. Since there can only be one x-intercept, the quadratic factor must have none. A possible choice is shown in the second attachment.
