Hannah and Jenny are selling pies for a school fundraiser. Customers can buy cherry pies and

blackberry pies. Castel sold 13 cherry pies and 1 blackberry pie for a total of $97. Jasmine sold
6 cherry pies and 3 blackberry pies for a total of $93. What is the cost each of one cherry pie and
one blackberry pie?

Blackberry = y

Make system of equations:

Castel:

13x + y = 97

Jasmine:

6x + 3y = 93

Substitution w/ Castel's equation:

y = 97 - 13x

Put into Jasmine's equation

6x + 3(97 - 13x) = 93

6x + 291 - 39x = 93

291 - 33x = 93

-33x = -198

x = 6 $ per Cherry Pie

Plug x = 6 into any equation (choose Castel's):

13(6) + y = 97

y + 78 = 97

y = 19 $ per Blackberry Pie
