Length = ( w + 13 ) units

Perimeter of rectangle = 38 units

2* (length + width) = 38

2*(w +13 + w )= 38 {Use distributive property: a*(b+c)=(a*b) +(a*c)

2* ( 2w + 13) = 38

2*2w + 2*13 = 38

4w + 26 = 38 {Subtract 26 from both sides}

4w = 38 - 26

4w = 12 {Divide both sides by 4}

w = 12/4

w = 3 units

Length = 3 + 13 = 16 units
