Answer:

Explanation:

a) Parallel lines have same slope. Compare the slopes of the two lines and we can find m

Write in y =mx + c form

D1 : -4x + y + 2 = 0

y = 4x -2

So, m = 4

D2: (1 + m)x + my - 5 = 0

my = -(1 + m)x + 5

y =
(-(1 + m))/(m)x+(5)/(m)

slope = (-1 +m)/m

(-(1+m))/(m)=4\\\\

Cross multiply,

-1 - m = 4m {Add 'm' to both sides }

-1 = 4m + m

-1 = 5m

5m = -1 {Divide both sides by 5}

m = -1/5
