Im trying to do IXL and I dont understand the way my teacher teaches (ironic right?)

Can you please help?
the points (p,3) and (-4,-4) fall on a line with a slope of 1/2. What is the value of p?

the value of p is 0

Explanation:

i use desmos testing calculator but they have a graph option and i just plugged in the (-4, -4) and put the 3 in the y and put random numbers in the x that would fit the slope line of 1/2 (i hope that makes sense)
