Answer:

1) increasing the side by a quantity of 1 causes the new square to increase by 2 times the previous side quantity + 1.

Example 1: 3x3=9, if you increase the sides to 4x4 increases the square by (2x3+1) to be 16.

Example 2: 12x12=144, if you increase the sides to 13x13 increases the square by (2x12=1) to be 169.
