1. Every morning, from their house to the bus stop Raine has to walk 12 m west , 24 m North and 12m East in 80 s . a) What is the total distance travelled by Raine ? b) What is her average speed? c) What is the total displacement of Raine? d) What is her average velocity.

2. A bus travels on an interstate highway at an average speed of 85 km/h. How far does the bus travel in 1.5 hours?

3. A postman delivers a letter to a recipient who lives 24.0 km away from the post office. If it took the postman 0.50 h to reach the recipient's home, what is the speed of the postman?

Q1) [refer attached photo]

a) know that distance is the length between two points

so

the total distance travelled by Raine = 12m + 24m +12m

= 48m

b) Average speed is total distance travelled divided by total time taken by object.

= 48m / 80s

= 0.6 ms^-1

c) know that displacement is the shortest distance between two points.

total displacement = 24m

d) since we don't know about the velocities ( i.e initial and final ) average velocity can be found with displacement ( s ) divided by time interval ( t ) of the displacement.

avg. velocity = s/t

know that displacement is the shortest distance between two points.

displacement = 24m

average velocity = 24m/ 80s

= 0.3 ms^-1

Q2)

Average speed (85 km/h) is total distance travelled divided by total time taken (1.5 hours)

total distance = speed × time

= 85 × 1.5

= 127.5 km

Q3)

24km / 0.50h = 48km/h
