(x_(2)-x_(1) )/(y_(2)-y_(1)) where you compare the difference between two sets of data points on the slope.

I will use the points (-2, 0) and (0, -2).


\frac{-2-0{} }{0-(-2){}}

This gives us -2/2 or a slope of -1
