What is an equation of the line that passes through the points (-6, 2) and (6, –2)?

y=(-1/3)x

Explanation:

y=mx+b

(x,y)

put in the first point into y=mx+b

2=m(-6)+b

then the second point is (6,-2)

put the point into y=mx+b

-2=6m+b

Put both equations in a system of equations

-2=6m+b

2=m(-6)+b

solve for m and b

-1/3=m and 0=b

so put that back into y=mx+b

y=(-1/3)x+0

so that is the only line that passes through both points
