You can see that the x by x square would be "full" if not for the 2 by 5 chunk that has been taken out of it

Therefore you can find the area by subtracting the 2 by 10 "chunk" out of the total area of the x by x square

Equation:

(x*x)-(2*5)

x^2-10

The answer is B
