30 > 4x + 2 and 6 books

  • let x = number of books he can afford

30 > 4x + 2

  • 30 would be on one side since that's the most he can spend
  • 4x because each book is $4
  • + 2 because there is a charge of $2

30 > 4x + 2

28 > 4x

7 > x

  • it cannot be 7 because if he does buy 7 books, it would cost more than $30
