A stone is an English measure of weight. There are 14 pounds in 1 stone and 2.2 pounds in 1 kilogram. A certain person weighs 9 stone.

(a) If you wanted to convert the person's weight to kilograms, what conversion factor should you use? Round the conversion to the nearest hundredth. Show your work.
(b) What is the person's weight in kilograms rounded to the nearest tenth?

2.2 pounds = 1 kg

So you should set up the proportion like this.

14 pounds / x = 2.2 pounds / 1 kg

Cross multiply

14 pounds * 1 kg = 2.2 pounds * x Divide by 2.2

14/2.2 = x

Conversion Factor = 6.364 kg / 1 stone

So one stone = 6.364 kg

1 stone / 6.364 kg = 9 stone / x

Cross multiply

x = 9 * 3.364 kg

x = 57.27 kg
