Here was my thought process when answering this question:

Withoutmpeeping at the answer choices, if you had to pick a word that would best substitute the word testament, what would first come to mind? Something along the lines of proof? Evidence?

If you can't think of a word, it sounds more reasonable to use substitute the word "proof" than "legal instructions" (choice a) and "bible" (choice b).

The word "reference" (choice c) seems like an appealing choice at first, however it is the second part of that answer choice that falls short (allegory in school assessments). Because the rest of the passage focuses on how animal farm changed the world, it wouldnt make sense for the sentence to focus on how it is a reference to school assessments, making choice D the best answer.
