Today there are numerous stereotypes regarding Native Americans that are maintained from the past, and that have been consolidated through the mass media, especially film and television. Thus, for example, natives are shown as uneducated people, who practically do not know the language and even have slow reasoning. In addition, their scant clothing and almost ridiculous ornaments seem more like a costume than a traditional dress. Lastly, these people are often portrayed as less prone to work, lazy, and quarrelsome.

All these stereotypes have damaged the image of the natives in America, and have contributed to the discrimination that they suffer daily at the hands of the majority western society of the country.
