Quarters have a coating of copper mixed with nickel on the outside. If the diameter of a quarter is 24.3 mm, then what is the surface area of one side of the quarter that will get coated?

Answer: 463.96 mm² or 46.4 cm²

Explanation:

Quarters are circular in shape so the surface area of one side will be the area of a circle.

Area of a circle = π * r²

Radius = Diameter / 2

= 24.3 / 2

= 12.15 mm

Area = 22/7 * 12.15²

= 463.96 mm²
