Using trigonometry

Cos (42) = base / hypotenuse

now hypotenuse is required which is the length of the ladder

Base is given = 6 feet from the wall.

Putting in equation

Cos (42) = 6 / hypotenuse

hypotenuse x cos (42) = 6

Hypotenuse x 0.743 = 6

hypotenuse = 6 / 0.743

Hypotenuse = Length of Ladder = 8.07 ft
