y = abs(4x - 12) and you write the absolute value equation as

y = 4x - 12 and

y = - 4x + 12

These two are shown in graph27a

to show both wings of the absolute value curve

This is slightly different.

I think you would write this as

y = 4x - 12 {r <3} where the restriction is outside the equation written with curly brackets. You should see both graphs together. The discussion of r<3 is shown in graph 27b
