If (x - 3) is a factor then x = 3 is a root and the polynomial will equal zero for x = 3 , that is

3³ - 3(3)² + 2(3) + 2

= 27 - 3(9) + 6 + 2

= 27 - 27 + 8

= 8

since the polynomial ≠ 0 for x = 3 then (x - 3) is not a factor
