Explanation:

$1. \: \: 3x +4 y = 8.50$

$2. \: \: 5x + 8y = 14.50$

times equation 1 by 2

$3. \: \: 6x + 8y = 17$

3-2 eliminates y variable

x =2.50

y = 0.25
