Explanation: Marbury v. Madison gave the Supreme Court the right to review pieces of legislation passed by the legislative branch (House of Representatives and Senate). In the case, John Marshall ruled the Judiciary Act of 1789 was unconstitutional since Madison could not be forced to give Marbury his commissions. He did this since it extended the Judicial Branch’s power beyond what it said in the Constitution that Article III established. By doing so, he helped improve the system of checks and balances.
Article III addresses this part of judicial power.
