The statue is of David from the biblical fight between David and the Goliath. It is an underdog story and how using your wits is be very beneficial. David is leaning to his side and is also looking up. He is looking up at his opponent who is much taller than him and is leaning to his side to hide the slingshot which he uses to defeat the Goliath. The sculpture conveys bravery and heroism.

Answer:

The curvature of his body, the dramatic emotion on his face. ... Bernini's David invokes many emotions and the SCULPTURE ITSELF is extremely emotional and dramatic. Michelangelo's David while slightly emotional displays MORE INTELLECTUAL aspects than emotional aspects.
