• A beetle sits at the top of a bicycle wheel with a diameter of 0. 75 m.

Assuming the wheel turns counterclockwise, what is the angular dis-

placement of the beetle before it is squashed under the wheel? What arc

length does the beetle travel through before it is squashed?

Answer:

S = R θ distance traveled by wheel of radius R thru angle θ

At θ = π 180 deg the wheel will be at the bottom

S = R θ distance traveled by beetle before reaching bottom

S = .75 m / 2 * π = 1.18 m
