Miranda sold movie DVD’s for $12 and television DVD’s for $9 and has collected $1167 from the sales of both. The number of movies sold is 4 less than 3 times the number of television shows. How many movie DVD’s were sold, and how many television DVD’s were sold?

The computation of the number of DVD sold and the number of television sold is shown below:

Let us assume the number of television be x

So, the number of movies would be (3x - 4)

Now according to the question the following equation is made

12(3x - 4) + 9x = $1167

36x - 48 + 9x = $1,167

45x = $1,215

x = 27

So, the number of be television be 27

And, the number of movies would be

= (3x - 4)

= 3(27) - 4

= 50
