x = 16

Explanation:

If the lines were parallel then (12x - 50) and (8x + 14) are alternate angles and are congruent , then

12x - 50 = 8x + 14 ( subtract 8x from both sides )

4x - 50 = 14 ( add 50 to both sides )

4x = 64 ( divide both sides by 4 )

x = 16

For a and b to be parallel then x = 16
