Question :

In parallelogram ABCD, AB = 4x + 8, BC = 12 and CD = 2x + 20. What is the length of AB?

  • A. 6
  • B. 12
  • C. 18
  • D. 20

Answer :

  • Correct answer for length AB is 32 actually but it isn't available in options. So, I guess options are for value of x only, and value of x = 6, that means option A is right if you want value of x.

Solution :

We have a parallelogram ABCD, in which :

  • AB = 4x + 8
  • BC = 12
  • CD = 2x + 20

Now, in parallelogram ABCD, AB is opposite side of CD and we know that opposite sides in a parallelogram are equal.

=> AB = CD

=> 4x + 8 = 2x + 20

=> 4x - 2x = 20 - 8

=> 2x = 12

=> x = 12/2

=> x = 6

Now, AB = 4x + 8 = 4 × 6 + 8 = 32.

There is some mistake in the options of question. ^^"

If you want to write value of x, then right option is A, but for side AB, right answer is 32.

Answer:

AB = 32.

Explanation:

The sides AB and CD are opposite each other and opposite sides in a parallelogram are equal in length, so we can write:

4x + 8 = 2x + 20

4x - 2x = 20 - 8

2x = 12

x = 6.

So, AB = 4(6) + 8

= 32.
