Answer is x=5

Step by step

We have 2 equations, I will use elimination method to solve for x

2x -2y = 10 Equation 1
x+y=5 Equation 2

Multiply the 2nd equation by -2 to make the y coefficients the same so we can eliminate y

-2(x +y =5)

-2x -2y = -10 (equation 2)

Now take equation 1 and subtract equation 2

2x -2y = 10
-2x -2y = -10 change signs when subtracting

4x = 20
Divide both sides by 4 to solve for x

4/4 x = 20/4

x = 5
