A ball is thrown straight down to the ground what do we expect to happen to the ball?

The ball slows down, and at the very top of its flight, its velocity at that instant is zero. The ball then continues accelerating downward at 9.8 m/s due to gravity, and begins traveling in the downward direction. On the way up, the ball is accelerating downward at 9.8 m/s^2.
