when you open the parenthesis, the formula should like this

a^2 -2ab + b^2

the main term that'll help you here is the -2ab

we know that a is x because in the equation you wrote, it begins with x^2

so the following info we have is -2*x*?

so -2x*1 will equal -2x

now looking at the a-b squared formula, we focus on the last term which is b squared. so if b is 1, 1*1 = 1
