Explanation:

substitute the x- coordinate of each point into the right side of both equations and if value obtained is equal to the left side, that is the y- coordinate of the point, then it makes the equation true.

(- 1, 4 )

y = x + 5 = - 1 + 5 = 4 ← true

y = 2x + 6 = 2(- 1) + 6 = - 2 + 6 = 4 ← true

(2, 3 )

y = x + 5 = 2 + 5 = 7 ≠ 3 ← false

y = 2x + 6 = 2(2) + 6 = 4 + 6 = 10 ≠ 3 ← false

(2, - 3 )

we know from the previous part for x = 2 that y = 7 , 10 ≠ - 3

similarly

(2, - 2 )

we know when x = 2 that y = 2 and y = 10 ≠ - 2

then the ordered pair that makes both equations true is (- 1, 4 )
