Determine whether the ordered pair (2, -3) is a solution to the system of equations: x - y = 5 and 2x + y = 1

Explanation:

x - y = 5 → (1)

2x + y = 1 → (2)

substitute (2, - 3 ), that is x = 2, y = - 3 into the left side of both equations and if the value obtained is equal to the right side in both then the ordered pair is a solution.

(1 ) 2 - (- 3) = 2 + 3 = 5 ← true

(2) 2(2) - 3 = 4 - 3 = 1 ← true

since both equations are true for (2, - 3 ) then it is a solution to the system.
