Bob wants to place twice the amount of orders of food from Franklin’s BBQ for his family reunion. Franklin’s BBQ has a one-time delivery fee of $33, and then charges $12 per pound of beef. He wants to spend no more than $140 on beef. What is the maximum number of pounds of beef Bob can purchase for each order? Write and solve and inequality.

An equation we can use to solve this will look like this:

33 + (12 × number of pounds of beef)

Now just insert a number into the equation:

33 + (12 × 12) = 177

This is too much money.

Lets try a different number.

33 + (12 × 9) = 141

This is still too much money.

Lets try 8.

33 + (12 × 8) = 129

If Bob buys 8 ponds of beef, then he will spend $129.
