Answer:

4 yellow tulips and 8 white lilies.

Explanation:

Ratio is 1:2:3 for yellow tulips, white lilies and the total.

Set up a proportion

(yellow)/(total) =
(yellow)/(total) Three of these numbers you know, Solve for the unknown

(1)/(3) =
(x)/(12) Cross multiply and solve for x

3x = 12 Divide both sides by 3

x = 4 This is the number of yellow tulips

Set up another proportion:

(white lilies)/(total) =
(white lilies)/(todal)

(2)/(3) =
(x)/(12) I can see that 3 x 4 = 12 so I will multiply the top number to 2 by 4 to get 8.
