Imagine that you are an immigrant coming to America in the early 1900s. Write a one-page letter to a family member still in Europe explaining your journey over, entry through Ellis Island, and what your life is like now that you have settled in America. Remember to use the information you have gained at each station.

Dear [Family Member],

I hope this letter finds you well. I have finally arrived in America and have settled into my new life here. It was a long and difficult journey to get here, but I am so glad that I made the decision to come.

I left [country] on a steamship that took me to Ellis Island in New York. When I arrived, I had to go through a series of inspections and interviews to make sure that I was healthy and able to support myself in America. It was a bit overwhelming and stressful, but I was eventually able to pass the tests and was allowed to enter the country.

Now that I am here, I am living in [city] and working as a [job]. The work is hard and the hours are long, but I am grateful to have a job and to be able to provide for myself and my family. The people here are very kind and welcoming, and I have already made some friends.

The living conditions here are much different than what I am used to back home. The houses are small and crowded, and the streets are always busy and noisy. But despite these challenges, I am happy to be here and to have the opportunity to build a better life for myself and my family.

I hope that you will consider joining me here in America. I know it will not be easy, but I believe that it is worth it. Please think about it and let me know what you decide.

Take care,

[Your Name]
